The lagoon, situated to the east of the Duchess Ranch, was built in 1952 for the 1953 film "Fair Wind to Java". Later, man-made cliffs were added to the eastern side of the lagoon, while on the south side a boat house was added and two boat landings and a settlement of trading post log cabins along the north side. It was this lagoon that the television show "Gilligan's Island" used.
